About the Morris Book Shop

The original Morris Book Shop was opened in 1937 by Jimmy Morris. After changing hands several times, the bookstore was obtained in the early 1950s by Joseph Houlihan, who owned and operated the store in downtown Lexington until 1978. The store offered new books on all subjects, and became a favorite destination for Lexington's book lovers.

The new Morris Book Shop was opened in May 2008 by Wyn Morris. Although Wyn isn't related to the original proprietor, store manager Hap Houlihan is the great-nephew of Joe Houlihan. Both lifelong Lexingtonians, Wyn and Hap have spent their careers in the book industry: they worked together at Joseph-Beth Booksellers and at the University Press of Kentucky. Their goal for our bookstore is to create the same welcoming atmosphere, authoritative selection, and prompt & friendly service as were the hallmarks of the original store.

Joining Wyn and Hap at the book shop are Josh Wolford, Anne Dean Watkins, Alison Courtney, and Kate Hensley. Each of our booksellers are ready and able to assist you in locating, suggesting, or ordering just the right book for you. In addition to over 20,000 new books on all subjects, the Morris Book Shop stocks journals & blank books, calendars, greeting cards, and other traditional bookstore offerings. Please browse our books page for a small sampling of the titles we offer.

Our store hours are:
Monday through Saturday: 10:00am to 7:00pm;
Sundays: 11:00am to 5:00pm
